Be Responsible
If you are about to buy a brand new car, you may want to adjust your mall time just a little bit. There is nothing wrong with purchasing a new shirt every now and then as long as you have the money you need for your exciting new purchase. In addition to being responsible, that includes not just putting everything on a credit card and thinking about how to pay it later. It has to be in your budget. I’m not going to get on a credit card soap box here but you know, responsible is responsible.
Make a Plan
If you know you are a shopper, but also want to keep saving money, plan out how much you are comfortable with saving and spending each month. Thinking about it is the easy part, but you also have to put it into action. I recommend setting up an automatic transfer into separate accounts for the various spending categories. For example a shopping account, if you transfer $50 into it every payday, you can either spend it all or save it and splurge on something cool later. Having this “fund” will allow you to spend within you spending plan never need to tap into your savings.
Find Sales
Did you know that almost weekly our favorite stores conduct a sales. Most stores also have a rewards points systems you can use for money off. I wouldn’t bank on the rewards system but it’s helpful if you have a favorite store you shop at often. As for sales, I pretty much just wait for things to go on sale. This is one reason I love the LTK app because you can favorite items you are watching in the app and get a notification when it goes on sale. But let me say things about sales… YOU ARE NOT SAVING MONEY IF YOU NEVER PLANNED TO BUY IT IN THE FIRST PLACE. We just have to be aware of the marketing trap.
